A man was taken into custody Tuesday evening after barricading himself in a Rosemead motel room for more than four hours.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded at about 4:40 p.m. to the Motel 6 in the 1000 block of San Gabriel Boulevard, near the Pomona (60) Freeway, to assist Whittier Police Department officers with the suspect who was inside a room and refused to come out, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The motel and the surrounding area were evacuated as Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau deputies and Crisis Negotiation Team personnel were called to the scene to attempt to persuade the man to surrender.

Authorities eventually flushed the man out of the room with “hot gas” and he was subdued by a dog, KCAL9 reported just after 8:55 p.m.

The man was taken into custody without further incident. KCAL9 reported the man was a possible homicide suspect, but the Sheriff’s Information Bureau could not immediately confirm the report.
