A man was shot in Banning during a confrontation with an unidentified assailant, who was at large Thursday.
The shooting happened about 11:55 a.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of West Ramsey Street, near 16th Street, according to the Banning Police Department.
Agency spokeswoman Sol Avila said that the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was attacked for unspecified reasons, suffering several gunshot wounds.
Patrol officers reached the location within a few minutes of the shooting and found the man near a business. He was taken to a trauma center, where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition, according to Avila.
A search for the shooter was unsuccessful.
