A man was found shot to death Tuesday in Hawthorne, and an investigation was underway.

Hawthorne Police Department officers responded to the 3300 block of Rosecrans Avenue on an unrelated call at about 5:30 a.m. when they were contacted by a citizen who reported seeing the man unresponsive in a vehicle nearby, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name was not released pending notification of his next of kin, though police said he was possibly about 40 years old.

No arrests were reported, and no suspect information was available.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting Hawthorne police in the investigation. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
