A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of homicide for causing a DUI accident that left one man dead in Coachella, authorities announced Wednesday.
Guermocindo Gonzalez of Coachella was arrested on Monday when the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a traffic collision at the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street and Cairo Avenue, according to Sgt. Mariano Matos.
Authorities arrived at the scene to find a GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Camaro collided into one another, with the passenger of the Camaro unresponsive. Life-saving measures were performed but the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the deceased passenger as Juan De Dios Cisneros on Tuesday.
Gonzalez, the driver of the Camaro, was found by authorities to show symptoms of being under the influence and at fault for the traffic collision, according to Matos. He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of homicide.
Jail records were not immediately available to indicate when he will first appear in court.
