An attic fire damaged a house in San Fernando Saturday morning.

The fire was reported just before 5 a.m. on the 600 block of North Newton Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Nicholas Prange.

Arriving firefighters found San Fernando police helping the home’s occupants get out of the single-story structure, Prange said.

Firefighters put plastic covers over furniture and other belongings below the fire to protect them from water damage as they punched holes in the roof and ceiling to attack the fire, he said.

The flames were out at 5:35 a.m., Prange said.
