A man was stabbed to death in a Long Beach alley Sunday morning, possibly by two assailants, authorities said.

Officers responded at about 3:45 a.m. to a report of a man yelling for help in an alley near the 700 block of Lime Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

They located a man suffering from apparent stab wounds to his upper body. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he died a short time later. He was believed to be in his 40s and may have been homeless, police said.

The witness who called police reported seeing two “dark figures” running away from the crime scene prior to the arrival of officers, police said.

LBPD homicide detectives urged anyone with information regarding the stabbing to call them at 562-570-7244 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
