Three young children who went missing in the South Los Angeles area overnight were found safe Friday with relatives in the area, police said.

Officers were sent to Adams Boulevard and Compton Avenue about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

According to police, the children — two boys, ages 3 and 10, and a 7-year-old girl — and their mother had been living in a vehicle, and the woman left them unattended about 10 p.m. Thursday. The woman discovered that they were gone when she returned to the vehicle, police said.

Officers looked for the children overnight, aided by search dogs, and discovered about 7:25 a.m. Friday that they were with relatives in the area, police said. Their mother was being questioned, and the case remains under investigation.
