A convicted felon and known gang member is behind bars Thursday on suspicion of illegally possessing a firearm.
Pedro Angel Gonzalez, 24, of Coachella was arrested on Wednesday when the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department conducted a parole compliance check at his residence in the 85000 block of Cairo Avenue.
According to Sgt. Paul Heredia, Gonzalez fled the home upon the arrival of deputies and ran into a residence next door in an attempt to hide. Heredia said Gonzalez then returned to his residence and refused to come out, cutting off his parole GPS ankle monitor. After a period of time, Gonzalez allegedly surrendered to authorities.
Deputies searched the residence and found a loaded handgun belonging to Gonzalez, who was then arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and violation of parole, according to Heredia.
Gonzalez was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center where he remains held without bail. Jail records did not indicate when he will next appear in court.
Gonzalez’s criminal history was not immediately available.
