A person, possibly hit by a train, was found dead Thursday in Burbank, police said.

The death was reported about 6 a.m. near the railroad tracks behind the Burbank Animal Shelter in the 1100 block of North Victory Place, said Burbank police Sgt. Brent Fekety.

“When the officers arrived, they located a deceased individual with severe injuries,” Fekety said in a statement.

“At this time, the identity of the deceased is unknown, nor is it known why the individual was on the tracks,” Fekety said. “However, there are several unhoused encampments in and around the area.”
