Two firefighters were injured, one home was destroyed and four other homes were damaged after a fire broke out at a mobile home park in Palm Desert Tuesday.
The Riverside County Fire Department received a report of the blaze at 1:25 p.m. in the 43000 block of Portola Avenue and arrived to find a double-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames.
The fire destroyed one mobile home and spread to an additional four homes, with one of the houses located outside the mobile home park, the department said at 3:44 p.m.
Two firefighters at the scene were being evaluated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Portola Avenue between Rutledge Way and Magnesia Falls Drive were closed while firefighters worked the scene.
Due to the fire, students at Abraham Lincoln Elementary and Palm Desert Charter Middle schools were evacuated, according to Desert Sands Unified School District spokeswoman Mary Perry.
Perry said students were evacuated from buildings and released to parents at about 2:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
