A man crossing a street was struck and killed by a Jeep Cherokee in Fullerton Tuesday evening.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the man was crossing northbound across Chapman Avenue around 6:35 p.m. and the Jeep was traveling westbound on Chapman Avenue before the collision near Cal State Fullerton, according to Sgt. Brandon Clyde, the Fullerton Police Department’s public information officer.

Officers found the pedestrian lying in the westbound lanes of Chapman and Clark avenues, Clyde said.

The man was taken to a hospital with significant traumatic injuries, where he died. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin, and it was not immediately known if he was affiliated with the university.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperating with police, Clyde said. Drugs, alcohol and speed were not determined to be a factor in the collision.
