A 29-year-old man was arrested in Seal Beach after allegedly leading officers in a stolen vehicle pursuit, police said Monday.
A Seal Beach Police Department motorcycle officer began pursuing Richard Ortiz, of Represa, in the vehicle just after 12:10 p.m. Saturday after attempting to conduct a stop for a traffic violation, according to a department statement.
SBPD units followed the vehicle until it came to a stop on 12th Street between Electric Avenue and Landing Avenue, near Zoeter Field.
“The driver of the vehicle quickly exited the vehicle and began to act in an erratic manner, refusing to follow the orders of the police officers on scene,” said SBPD Lt. Nick Nicholas. “Officers on scene used a Taser to take the suspect into custody without further incident.”
Officers discovered the vehicle Ortiz was driving was reported stolen, and he was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and failure to yield, according to the SBPD.
The vehicle was later returned to its owner.
