A man in his early 20s was shot and killed in Lancaster Monday.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called just after 4:25 p.m. to the 45000 block of 16th Street West, near Monte Vista Elementary School, on reports of the shooting and found the man in the front yard of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Details on what led up to the shooting were not immediately available, and no suspect description was provided.
