A man who was shot during a robbery then struck by a car in South Los Angeles was publicly identified Saturday.

Eugenio Paz was 52, according to the coroner’s office. His cause of death was blunt force trauma and his city of residence was unavailable.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called just after 12:10 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Budlong Avenue and 109th Street in the Westmont area of Los Angeles on reports of a traffic collision and found Paz suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene, according to a department statement.

Deputies learned he was in the area to look at a car for sale when he was approached by a suspect who attempted to rob him. Two additional suspects participated in the robbery, and one drew a handgun and shot him.

Paz ran into the street after he was shot and was struck by a car traveling southbound on Budlong. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The LASD did not specify whether the driver remained on scene following the collision.

The suspects ran from the scene westbound on 109th Street following the shooting. They were described only as males.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
