Authorities Thursday identified a man who was fatally shot while driving a vehicle in La Mirada over the weekend.
Fernando Castaneda, 56, died at the scene where the vehicle crashed about 12:20 p.m. Sunday in the 13610 block of Valley View Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were sent to the location on a report of a traffic crash, the sheriff’s department reported.
“Upon arrival, deputies believed it was solely a traffic collision fatality,” a sheriff’s department statement said. “When the Los Angeles County coroner arrived, a gunshot wound was discovered to the victim’s upper torso.”
The case has been classified as a homicide, the coroner’s office reported. No suspect description was available.
