Deputies seized $14,000 in cash from two women accused of running a prostitution house in La Quinta, sheriff’s officials said Saturday.
Mei Ya Liu, 50, of San Gabriel and Guowen Wu, 43, of Alhambra were arrested Friday morning when deputies served a search warrant at a home in the 79000 block of Highway 111, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
During the raid, no victims of sex trafficking were identified, but authorities said the investigation stemmed from a prior incident where a sex act was negotiated in exchange for money.
Liu and Wu were booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of two misdemeanor counts of keeping a house of ill fame and prostitution.
They were released from jail Friday afternoon after they each posted $2,500 bail.
