A brush fire that erupted Monday in the hills just west of Temecula scorched an acre before the combined efforts of Cal Fire air crews and ground crews stopped it.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 1:20 p.m. in the area of Via Pino and Via Vaquero, in the unincorporated community of De Luz, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Three Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter reached the location prior to multiple engine and hand crews, beginning a series of runs that slowed the fire to a near-standstill.

The blaze burned upslope, away from homes, as firefighters deployed around it, according to officials at the scene.

By 4:10 p.m., the fire was fully contained and under control, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
