A building was damaged Friday by a fire at a mountain retreat alongside Highway 243 in Pine Cove, but firefighters prevented the flames from leaping into surrounding vegetation.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 2:40 p.m. at the Alhatti Christian Resort & Retreat in the 23500 block of Highway 243, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine crews from the county, along with several engines from the Idyllwild Fire Protection District, were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in a structure, threatening to spread into bushes and a stand of trees.
The structure was unoccupied.
Crews quickly established a perimeter around the fire, stopping its advance by 3:10 p.m., according to officials at the scene.
The extent of damage to the building was being assessed, and mop-up operations were expected to continue into the evening hours.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
