A Metrolink train struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday in the Van Nuys area.

The crash occurred about 5:40 a.m. between the Northridge and Van Nuys stations, and involved Metrolink train 100 on the Ventura County Line, which was en route from Moorpark to Los Angeles, according to Scott Johnson of Metrolink.

The fatally injured person was in a “non-pedestrian” area, Johnson said. According to reports from the scene, the person was fatally injured at Balboa and Roscoe boulevards.

Information on the person’s identity was not immediately available.

About 40 people were aboard the train, and no one was hurt, Johnson said. Alternate transportation was being arranged for the passengers, and the railroad tracks were closed while an investigation was conducted.
