A brush fire that erupted Thursday near Highway 74 on the west end of Perris scorched roughly two acres before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:20 p.m. on the north side of the highway, adjacent to Navajo Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that eight engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate in a field amid southwest winds.
Firefighters set up a defensive perimeter around a business that was briefly threatened by the brusher, using roads on all sides to prevent the fire from spreading, according to officials at the scene.
The fire’s forward rate of spread was halted shortly before 5 p.m. Full containment was expected by nightfall.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
