A brush fire erupted Thursday near Highway 74 on the west end of Perris, scorching two acres and threatening a commercial building as crews deployed to contain it.
The blaze was reported at 4:20 p.m. on the north side of the highway, adjacent to Navajo Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that eight engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate in a field amid southwest winds.
Firefighters set up a defensive perimeter around the business and were working to encircle the brusher, using roads on all sides to prevent it from spreading, according to officials at the scene.
No Cal Fire aircraft were immediately requested.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
