A motorist suspected of driving under the influence caused a fatal collision with a 33-year-old motorcyclist at a Moreno Valley intersection, authorities said Wednesday.

Byron Alexa Cifuentes Saucedo, 23, was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on Tuesday on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter with intoxication and hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury for the death of Mikela Lang of Moreno Valley.

Saucedo is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Saucedo was driving his 2010 Nissan Altima eastbound on Filaree Avenue at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday when the traffic signal at the intersection of Filaree and Perris Avenue turned red.

Sgt. Robert Grmusha said the suspect failed to stop for the red light and entered the intersection just as Lang drove through it going southbound on Perris aboard her 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650.

“The Kawasaki motorcycle collided with the Nissan’s driver side, causing the rider to be ejected forward from the motorcycle,” Grmusha said.

The victim was hurled onto the roadway.

Saucedo allegedly bailed out of his sedan and attempted to run away but was stopped by witnesses, who physically restrained him until patrol deputies arrived, according to the sergeant.

Paramedics reached the location within 10 minutes and pronounced Lang dead at the scene.

Grmusha said the ensuing investigation indicated that Saucedo was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Background information on the suspect was not available.
