A man was arrested in Long Beach Friday evening after eluding police for more than three hours after fatally shooting another man.

Long Beach Police Department officers were called just after 3:20 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 3100 block of West Spring Street, near Silverado Park, on reports of the shooting and found the victim at the scene with a gunshot to his upper body, according to a department statement.

Fire department paramedics were called to the scene and took the man to a hospital, where he died. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived, though police determined he was still in the area and established a perimeter to search for him.

The LBPD reported just after 6:45 p.m. that the man surrendered to officers and was taken into custody. His name was not immediately released.

Events leading up to the shooting were under investigation.
