A 55-year-old man was fatally struck while crossing a street on the east end of Riverside, authorities said Thursday.

David Seager of Riverside was struck shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday on Day Street, near Campus Parkway, along the boundary separating Riverside and Moreno Valley, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Sgt. Ryan Taack said Seager was walking eastbound on Day, where there is no crosswalk, when a woman at the wheel of a 2020 Honda Accord approached going southbound at an unknown speed.

“The Honda struck the pedestrian in the southbound lanes,” Taack said.

He said the motorist, identified only as a 33-year-old Moreno Valley resident, stopped and called 911.

Riverside Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and found Seager in grave condition.

The victim was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m.

Taack said patrol officers questioned the motorist, who was not hurt, but she was not arrested.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the police Traffic Bureau at 951-826-8720.
