Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department investigators issued a search warrant at the home of Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl Wednesday morning.
Kuehl was escorted from her home in Santa Monica at around 7 a.m., and said she was alone in the house, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
Sheriff’s deputies went inside her home, and could be seen opening and closing doors and taking photos or videos.
Search warrants were also issued at the downtown L.A. offices of Kuehl and at the MTA, the county’s transit authority, according to reports from NBC 4.
The reason for the search at Kuehl’s home was not immediately clear. The Sheriff’s Department has been investigating Peace Over Violence, a nonprofit run by a member of the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission. The commission member is an associate of Kuehl’s, and both have clashed with Sheriff Alex Villanueva and called for his resignation, the Times reported.
Kuehl told Fox 11 that the search warrant was a “bogus non-investigation.”
The investigation of Peace Over Violence stems from allegations by a county employee that the nonprofit was offered contracts from Kuehl’s office. Members of Kuehl’s staff have said they were not involved in awarding the contracts, the Times reported.
