More than 60 tickets were issued, one arrest made and one vehicle impounded during a crackdown on traffic safety violations in San Jacinto Tuesday.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies conducted the enforcement campaign from 7-10 a.m. throughout the city, zeroing in on scofflaws who might put themselves, other drivers and pedestrians at risk.

“The goal of the operation was to educate drivers on the importance of driving within the speed limit and driving cautiously within school zones, especially while children are present,” Sgt. Dawn Blair said.

Blair said 64 citations were written, ranging from excess speed to red light running and other alleged violations.

One motorist was arrested due to an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, Blair said. The specific offenses associated with the writ were not disclosed.

One vehicle was impounded in connection with the enforcement effort, according to Blair.

Deputies are expected to conduct similar crackdowns in the future.
