Fire heavily damaged a large home in Rancho Mirage Sunday evening, with flames engulfing roughly half of the 4,000-square-foot structure and one firefighter suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The blaze was reported shortly after 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Royal St. Georges Way, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Roughly 30 minutes into the firefighting effort, crews reported making “good progress” dousing the flames, but the home suffered significant damage.

The blaze was contained around 8:30 p.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Authorities did not provide specifics on the injuries suffered by the firefighter, saying only the injuries were not life-threatening. The firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment.

There was no immediate word on what sparked the blaze.
