A fire heavily damaged a warehouse in Huntington Park Tuesday but no one was hurt.

Firefighters were sent to the 5800 block of Soto Street about 4:45 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The flames burned through the building’s roof, which partially collapsed, and the firefighters went into a defensive operation, working to prevent the flames from spreading to other structures.

After about 90 minutes, the firefighters had apparently made good progress in extinguishing the fire, but fire crews remained on scene working to completely douse the flames, an effort that was continuing after 8 a.m.

Arriving firefighters found cardboard boxes on fire against the front of the building, according to KTLA5, which reported that the warehouse stored items including mattresses, linens, and blankets.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
