A 57-year-old man was charged Tuesday with stabbing his son-in-law in Yorba Linda.

The victim, who is going through a divorce with his wife, went to see his children Friday night when Hna Zhao told him he had a “gift” for the victim before stabbing him multiple times in the back, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Scott Steinle.

The victim managed to stagger over to a neighbor’s home, where he asked help and deputies were dispatched at 8:11 p.m., Steinle said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and immediately underwent surgery, Steinle said.

Zhao was charged with attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, inflicting great bodily injury on the victim and the personal use of a deadly weapon, according to court records.

Zhao did not enter a plea at his arraignment in the jail courtroom Tuesday in Santa Ana and was scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 8 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
