Flames damaged an apartment in the Chinatown area Monday, and a man was taken to a hospital for smoke-related issues.
The fire was reported around 2 p.m. in a two-unit residential building in the 700 block of North Grand Avenue.
A total of 35 firefighters extinguished the fire in 19 minutes and confined it to a unit on the first floor of the building, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The second unit upstairs sustained only smoke damage, fire officials said.
A 57-year-old man was taken to a hospital for “smoke-related medical complaints,” but he was described as in fair condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of fire was not immediately available.
