A mother in Menifee is accused of disobeying a court-ordered child exchange process, then leading authorities on a lengthy pursuit to the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a report Sunday.
The drama began when Menifee police responded to a child exchange issue on Saturday because the mother, who has not yet been identified, did not turn over the kids to their father as she was supposed to, Fox5 reported.
The mother was tracked to Riverside County, where the case was taken over by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. That’s when the pursuit began with the woman driving on the 215 and 60 freeways, the station reported.
Once the woman reached the San Diego area, the chase was taken over by Escondido police, the station reported. The chase finally ended around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, when the mother drove into Mexico.
Menifee police told the station the woman tried to reenter the U.S. around 9 a.m. Sunday, but was arrested by Border Patrol. The children have since been returned to the care of their father.
