Fire erupted Thursday in a vacant, boarded-up house in the East Hollywood area, sending thick smoke into the air.
The fire was reported about 1:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Berendo Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters went into a defensive operation, working to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings.
There was no immediate word on any injuries, or what may have sparked the blaze.
