Authorities arrested a man Friday at the conclusion of a three-county chase in which the driver of a reportedly carjacked black pickup fired at pursuing officers and hit triple-digit speeds prior to crashing into a pole in the Harbor City area.
The chase ended after the suspect sideswiped a vehicle and struck a pole near Western Avenue and 252nd Street. There was no immediate information about the suspect’s condition or the manner in which he was injured.
Around 3:30 p.m., the suspect fired the first of multiple bursts of gunshots at pursuing authorities. Reports of a second round of fire shot at authorities occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Bellflower Boulevard.
During the pursuit, the suspect — armed with a high-caliber, semiautomatic weapon — drove at high speeds along surface streets, on the wrong side of the roadway, and through a school zone filled with children in a crosswalk.
There were no reported injuries. No further immediate information is available as the investigation remains ongoing.
