A 24-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested on suspicion of felony evading and being an unlicensed driver at the end of a vehicle chase by Pomona police officers who were patrolling a corridor known for human trafficking-related crimes, authorities said Saturday.

Officers conducted a traffic stop at about 12:05 p.m. Friday at Indian Hill Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue where they pulled over a 2015 Mercedes C300 for vehicle code violations, said Sgt. Dan Gomez of the Pomona Police Department.

“Officers asked (Devion Monae) Young to step out of the vehicle,” Gomez said. “It was then that Young re-started the vehicle and fled.”

The pursuit ended when Young lost control of the car, which struck a chain-link fence in the area of Jefferson and San Antonio avenues. He fled the location on foot into a residential area and his female passenger was detained and questioned, Gomez said.

A K-9 unit and an air unit responded to the scene to assist in the search. The K-9 unit located Young hiding in the backyard of a home in the 800 block of Columbia Avenue, where he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

He was arrested on suspicion of hit and run, felony evading and being unlicensed driver.

Pomona police urged anyone with information about the suspect to call them at 909-620-2085. Tipsters can also contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
