A parolee suspected of trying to carjack a Wildomar motorist and beating up a good Samaritan who tried to intervene was at large Wednesday.
David Salceda, 33, of Lake Elsinore allegedly perpetrated the attack at about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 23000 block of Catt Road, near Charles Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Evan Bechtold alleged that Salceda “assaulted the driver and gained access to the driver’s seat,” then attempted to flee.
“A witness heard the victim yelling for help and approached the suspect, resulting in a second assault,” Bechtold said.
Other witnesses called 911, but Salceda fled before patrol deputies converged on the location, according to the sergeant.
He said the two victims, whose identities were not disclosed, suffered unspecified non-life-threatening injuries and did not require hospitalization.
In the ensuing investigation, detectives were able to confirm the suspect’s identity.
Jail records show that he was recently booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta for alleged parole violations but was released four days later.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts was asked to contact the sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station at 951-245-3300.
