Firefighters Thursday extinguished a fire at a scrap metal recycling business in the South Los Angeles area in which no one was hurt.

The fire was reported about 12:05 p.m. at C&M Metals in the 1700 block of East 24th Street, just east of Long Beach Avenue, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. No structures were threatened.

The firefighters extinguished the fire in a 75-foot-by-100-foot pile of metal recycling material and machinery in about 45 minutes, Humphrey said.

“Firefighters will remain on scene this afternoon to overhaul the fire and complete extinguishment of smoldering debris,” he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
