A pedestrian was killed Thursday while walking along Highway 371 in Anza.
The fatality occurred about 2:35 p.m. at the junction of the two-lane corridor and Highway 79, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said that a Ford F-150 pickup truck ran into the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, but no other details were available.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location shortly before 3 p.m. and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The pickup driver was not hurt. He was questioned by CHP officers but not arrested.
As of 5 p.m., Highway 371 remained partially blocked at the junction while officers and a coroner’s official completed a preliminary investigation.
