A 63-year-old man drowned in a fishing pond in Jurupa Valley, authorities announced Saturday.
Deputies responded to a report of an accidental drowning around 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Rancho Jurupa Park at 4800 Crestmore Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The man entered the water and swam approximately 30 yards into the lake to retrieve a fishing rod. Witnesses told deputies the man went underneath the water, but never resurfaced.
Cal Fire, Jurupa Valley Park Rangers and Riverside Sheriff’s Helicopter Rescue 9 assisted deputies with the search.
The man was identified as Myron Dinga, a Riverside resident. He was located by the sheriff’s rescue helicopter and pulled ashore with the assistance of a Cal Fire boat.
Life-saving measures were performed, but Dinga succumbed to his injuries.
