Water-dropping helicopters and firefighting personnel battled a 3-acre brush fire that broke out near Chatsworth before it was contained Tuesday.

Fox 11 reported the fire was extinguished early Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were called at 10:54 p.m. Monday to 15954 Browns Canyon Road near an unincorporated area of Porter Ranch and the Santa Susana Mountains and an abandoned Nike missile base regarding a brush fire that was burning up hill. The Ventura County Fire Department joined the LAFD in taking on the flames, as the fire was in a mutual threat fire zone, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The fire quickly moved into the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which continued to battled the flames. The LAFD took a supporting role as the flames continued to burn, Humphrey added.

Arson investigators are on the scene of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were no injuries reported.
