About 250 Menifee households were without electricity amid 100-degree heat Thursday after a vehicle accident damaged a power pole.
The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of McCall Boulevard and Sherman Road, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Officials said the single-vehicle wreck damaged the pole and caused transmission lines to collapse, triggering a power outage in the immediate vicinity.
“Southern California Edison is estimating 12 hours to complete repairs and restore power,” according to a city statement.
SCE said on its website that technicians were working to bring electrical service back online as of 3 p.m.
In the meantime, the Riverside County Fire Department advised impacted residents to consider visiting one of two cooling centers available in the area: Ceniceros Senior Center, 29995 Evans Road, and Sun City Library, 26982 Cherry Hills Blvd.
Air-conditioned space, water and other essentials are available.
Temperatures in the Menifee Valley topped 100 degrees just after 3 p.m.
