A Los Angeles police officer was involved in a shooting in the downtown area Thursday, but there was no immediate word on injuries.

The shooting occurred about noon in the 1000 block of East Seventh Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department and reports from the scene.

KTLA5 reported that police were sent to the area in response to a person carrying a large knife, and the person was shot by an officer.

Paramedics sent to the location at 11:53 a.m. on a reported shooting took one person to a hospital in unknown condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Police did not have any information immediately available on the shooting, but reported that no officers or bystanders were injured. Police advised that Seventh Street was expected to be blocked for several hours between Stanford Street and Central Avenue.
