A person was stabbed in the chest Monday near a restroom building on the beach in Santa Monica and taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

Police responded to the 2000 block of the beach around 2:07 p.m. on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and found the injured person, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The victim sustained a stab wound to the chest and was administered CPR until the arrival of paramedics, police said.

The person’s condition was unknown. KCAL9 reported from the scene that the person was unconscious and not breathing when taken to a hospital.

It was unclear if any suspects were in custody.
