A vehicle and at least 15 acres of vegetation burned Tuesday in Nuevo, but firefighters were able to stop the forward rate of spread within an hour.
Fire crews responded shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday to the 31100 block of Nuevo Road to a report of a vegetation fire, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
“Firefighters on-scene of one vehicle and vegetation burning,” fire officials wrote in a statement at around 10:30 a.m. “Five to eight acres of brush burning in light flashy fuels at moderate rate of spread.”
Additional air resources were requested to the scene to help mitigate the flames, according to fire officials.
By 11:15 a.m., the fire had grown to 15 acres but the forward rate of spread was stopped, officials said. Resources were expected to remain on the scene for several hours for mop-up and overhaul.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. No injuries were reported.
Fire officials asked people to avoid the area near the intersection of Nuevo Road and Hansen Avenue while they work on the roadway.
