A passenger on a Metro C Line train in Hawthorne was shot Wednesday evening.

The victim was taken to a hospital in unknown condition following the shooting when the train was at the Crenshaw Station, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. KCAL reported that the person sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Deputies responded to the area near the Crenshaw Boulevard off-ramp from the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway to search for a suspect after receiving a report about shots fired around 7:50 p.m.

The police activity stemming from the shooting prompted Metro to suspend train service between the Hawthorne/Lennox and Vermont/Athens stations, providing shuttle bus service instead.
