A brush fire that broke out Wednesday in Sage quickly charred 10 acres, prompting a road closure but no immediate evacuations.
The blaze was reported at about 1:45 p.m. in the area of Stanley and Sage roads, about four miles north of Highway 371, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine and hand crews from the county and other agencies were sent to the location and encountered flames on a hillside, moving at a moderate rate through light vegetation.
Three Cal Fire air tankers and at least one water-dropping helicopter initiated a series of runs on the brusher, slowing its advance, according to reports from the scene.
Crews were experiencing challenges establishing lines around the blaze due to the terrain.
Although the flames were moving in the direction of scattered residences, no evacuation orders were immediately announced in the lightly populated community.
A stretch of Thomas Road was shut down between Wilson Valley Road and the fire zone.
There was no immediate word on what might have triggered the fire.
