A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and alleged possession of a loaded firearm and narcotics in San Jacinto, authorities said Saturday.

Gonzalo Hernandez of Murrieta was booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on Friday afternoon after he attempted to evade law enforcement at a fast food restaurant, officials said.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s San Jacinto station followed Hernandez on a possible DUI in the 1000 block of North State Street, where the suspect pulled into the drive-thru to hide, according to the department.

Deputies made contact with Hernandez, who allegedly was found asleep at the wheel.

Authorities said a search of the suspect’s vehicle revealed he was in possession of a loaded firearm, over 6 ounces of heroin, over 2 ounces of methamphetamine, and over $800 in cash while allegedly driving a vehicle stolen from Temecula.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the suspect was urged to contact Deputy Cormier at the San Jacinto sheriff’s station at 951-654-2702.
