A parolee who killed a 22-year-old man during a confrontation in west Riverside was sentenced Thursday to six years in state prison.

Kelvin Trayvone Taylor, 30, of Riverside pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter under an agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. In exchange for his admission, prosecutors dropped an assault charge and related sentence-enhancing allegations against Taylor.

During a hearing at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Superior Court Judge John Molloy certified the terms of the plea deal and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.

Taylor fatally assaulted Jordan Love.

According to Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback, the defendant and Love had an unspecified confrontation on the evening of Feb. 8, 2019, in the 7400 block of El Sol Way, near Madison Street, in an area of the city known as Casa Blanca.

Not long afterward, passers-by spotted the victim lying unconscious on the cul-de-sac and called 911. He had suffered “major trauma to the head” and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, but he never regained consciousness and died four days later, Railsback said.

Homicide detectives began collecting evidence and speaking with potential witnesses, eventually identifying Taylor as the assailant. He was taken into custody without a struggle on Limonite Avenue in Jurupa Valley on May 1, 2019.

Investigators did not publicly disclose the conflict between the defendant and victim.

According to court records, Taylor has prior convictions for armed robbery, possession of an assault rifle and grand theft.
