Authorities Thursday identified a motorist who was killed in a collision with a big rig in Long Beach.
The crash was reported about 4 p.m. Wednesday at Anaheim Street and West Ninth Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Silverio Arturo Vasquez, Jr., 64, of Los Angeles died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
“The preliminary investigation revealed a 2009 Lexus ES350 was traveling northbound on West Ninth Street just south of Anaheim Street,” police said in a statement.
“A 2014 Volvo semi-truck was driving southbound in the intersection of Ninth Street and Anaheim Street when the Lexus made an unsafe turn to westbound Anaheim Street and collided head-on with the semi-truck,” police said.
The truck driver, a 30-year-old resident of Santa Ana, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. The trucker’s name was not released.
“Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in this collision,” police said.
