A suspected drunken driver triggered a wrong way crash Thursday on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway at the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles that left another motorist dead at the scene.
A child, at least 5 years old, who was an occupant inside the Kia sedan driven by the suspected drunken motorist, suffered minor injuries. Another occupant, a woman in her mid-20s, suffered minor to moderate injuries. The motorist, a man in his mid-20s, also sustained minor to moderate injuries, California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Gomez told City News Service.
Paramedics dispatched to the scene at 4:40 a.m. Thursday rushed the three people to a hospital, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported. A representative from the Medical Examiner’s Office was called out to the scene at 5:26 a.m.
The crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound freeway at Santa Fe Avenue, the CHP reported.
The Kia sedan, going westbound in the eastbound lanes, collided with a Honda sedan killing a man, who was the lone occupant inside the car, Gomez said
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 4:56 a.m. for the closure of four lanes of the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway and Santa Fe Avenue. That SigAlert was cancelled at 8:49 a.m.
