A motorcyclist died early Monday when the rider struck a curb and was thrown from the bike in La Quinta.

Deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded at 2:31 a.m. Monday to a report of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Avenida Bermudas and Calle Tecate, according to Sgt. Mark Chlarson of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon arrival, patrol deputies found a green 2014 Kawasaki motorcycle on the sidewalk and the rider unresponsive nearby, Chlarson said. Deputies unsuccessfully attempted lifesaving measures before American Medical Response personnel arrived and pronounced the rider dead at the scene.

The rider’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Avenida Bermudas when it failed to make the turn from southbound Avenida Bermudas onto westbound Calle Tecate and struck the curb, ejecting the rider,” Chlarson wrote in a statement. “Currently, it is unknown if intoxication played a part in this collision.”

The La Quinta Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team of the Thermal Sheriff’s Station was investigating the crash, according to Chlarson.

Anyone with information on the fatal crash was asked to call Deputy Kevin Moore with the La Quinta Traffic Team at 760-863-8990 or anonymously at 760-341-7867.
